Introduction to the PacificIslands Forum Trade Office China

Who we report to:

The Pacific Islands Forum Trade Office China (referred to herein as “PIFTO”) is a subsidiary of the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat with its head quarters in Suva, FijiIslands.The PIFTO is part of the growing network of Trade & Investment Promotion Offices (Auckland, Sydney, and Tokyo) under the auspices of the Trade & Investment Division.

Area of Responsibility:

The PIFTO market responsibility covers Mainland China, and the special administrative regions of Hong Kong and Macau.

Countries Represented in China:

The Cook Islands, Fiji, Federated States of Micronesia, French Polynesia, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Nauru, New Caledonia, Niue, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, the Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu, and Vanuatu.

PIFTO Mission Statement:

To create opportunities between the PacificIslands and China.

Objectives:

• Stimulate and facilitate reciprocal trade between the Pacific Islands & the People's Republic of China ;
• Stimulate and facilitate reciprocal investment between the Pacific Islands and the People's Republic of China ;
• Stimulate and facilitate reciprocal tourism traffic flows between the Pacific Islands and the People's Republic of China ;
• Stimulate and facilitate broader interaction and cooperation in the areas of education, culture, media, social development & gender equality, general technical assistance, finance, telecommunications and so forth, between the Pacific Islands and the People's Republic of China;
• Promote greater partnerships and friendship between the Pacific Islands and the People's Republic of China .
